Remediation of Luoshan Shadow Puppets: A Method for Effective Communication
Abstract
Remediation refers to the process of transferring, reshaping, and re-presenting the connotations carried by old media through new media forms to achieve continuous communication. As a core concept in media evolution and development, it emphasizes the transformation and renewal of traditional media forms via emerging media technologies. For intangible cultural heritage (ICH), remediation creates diverse possibilities and opportunities for its effective inheritance, preservation and promotion. With the advancement of digital technologies, remediation has become a major developmental trend in ICH communication. It breaks the temporal and spatial limitations of traditional inheritance modes. This study adopts mixed research methods, including in-depth interviews with five ICH experts, questionnaire surveys with 145 valid respondents, and field investigations on the current digital communication status of Luoshan shadow puppetry. The results indicate that remediation exerts a dual influence on the inheritance and dissemination of Luoshan shadow puppetry. Accordingly, the strategic framework and optimization suggestions proposed in this research provide innovative ideas and practical approaches for the digital communication and adaptive inheritance of Luoshan shadow puppetry.
